Joseph M. Barry, Jr. CFA
I was introduced to the art of serving clients at an early age when I began working at my father’s furniture store in Fitchburg, Massachusetts. My father served as my mentor and taught me that client service is all about the Golden Rule. We treat clients how they want to be treated.
While studying business at Babson College, I was drawn to the excitement of Wall Street and knew I wanted to pursue a career in the financial industry. I began my career in 1974 as an Account Executive at Merrill Lynch. After 25 years at Merrill, I transferred to A.G. Edwards as a Senior Vice President/Branch Manager and in 2007, created the independent advisory firm, Barry Investment Advisors, LLC, with my son, Patrick Barry. I have continued to follow the Golden Rule throughout my 43-year career and believe this is why our business has achieved so many long-lasting relationships with clients and their families.
I currently reside in Portsmouth, Rhode Island and Naples, Florida with my wife, Pam and we enjoy spending time with our granddaughter (and grand dog, Chip!) in our free time. We are avid boaters and also enjoy golfing and biking. The best piece of financial advice that I’ve received was during my tenure at Merrill Lynch and it is to follow Benjamin Graham’s value investing philosophy. In short, focus on owning financially sound companies, use market fluctuations to your advantage and seek a margin of safety.
