Chart of the Month

The Index became more concentrated as the Magnificent Seven stocks outperformed. At the end of 2023, the Magnificent Seven stocks represented more than 25% of the market capitalization of the S&P 500. At the end of the dot-com bubble in 2000, index concentration also reached a multi-year peak. In both cases, the price-to-earnings ratio (P/E) of the top seven stocks far exceeded the average P/E of the overall index.
